Peter Allan - Contracted

Projects Manager


Peter has many years of experience in marine newbuild and refit/conversion projects including, electrical design and installation on marine projects ranging from workboats and tugs, luxury superyachts and large commercial cargo vessels.  Peter is our Projects Manager looking after the management and control of major projects including assisting clients in the preparation of specifications, tender documents and project control. He is also our senior electrical design engineer responsible for electrical/electronics specification, design, detailing, construction supervision, and project management.

Jason Smith

Principal Naval Architect & MID Manager


Jason joined MID as a Naval Architect with previous experience with RoRo Passenger Ferries, High Speed Ferries, high speed catamarans and luxury superyachts. Jason leads our Naval Architecture team and is responsible for stability assessments, hull modelling, resistance and propulsion as well as vessel design, rule scantling assessment and compliance and structural design.

Josh Schuwer

Naval Architect

MEng(Hons), MRINA, C.Eng

Josh has 7 years’ experience as a Naval Architect,until moving to MID he was working for Babcock in Rosyth, UK, supporting the construction of Royal Navy vessels including new aircraft carriers. He has experience in structural design, stability investigations and inclines, scanlings and rule application. Josh supports MID commercial activity and also provision of in-service support to the RNZN as part of the Babcock/RNZN contract.

Matt Cotton

Dip Eng (Mech) AMRINA

Matt has a strong background as a project engineer working on large scale international tug and barge transport projects. He is a very competent user of both 2D and 3D CAD packages, and uses his broad and very practical marine project experience, along with his mechanical skills, to develop and produce high quality design solutions and practical outcomes for MID customers.

Kris Decke

Design Engineer


Kris looks after our Whangarei office where he provides ongoing engineering support to the local shipyards. Kris brings a combination of real world experience onboard international superyachts and a degree in engineering that allows him to produce practical designs that he knows will work onboard the vessel.  Kris is an integral part of our enginering team and responsible for structural and mechanical engineering and design support to larger projects and local shipyards providing design detailing, engineering systems layout design cut files, modelling, including FEA structural analysis of designs.

Jarrod Gibson

Design Draughtsperson

Jarrod combines a practical hands on boatbuilding apprenticeship with marine design draughting experience from New Zealand and overseas. Jarrod provides design draughting support to the engineering team and uses his practical experience to ensure design solutions are practical and easy to build and maintain in the real world. Jarrod is responsible for structural, mechanical and electrical design draughting in support of our design engineers.

Shaun Niven

Naval Architect

Bachelor of Design: Transport Design (1st Class Honours)

Shaun has 6 years of experience in the marine industry designing for Superyacht builders and working for renowned deisgn houses in the UK. Shaun is a skilled user of CAD and is part of the MID team developing laser scanning capability. Shaun has experience working with classification societies and also has extensive mechanical design expertise.

Raya Mesherry

Design Draughtsperson

B.Eng (Shipbuilding)

Raya has skills in mechanical and naval architectural design with many of the leading CAD packages. She has exetnsive experience in the superyacht industry and with global marine equipment manufacturers. Raya is part of the MID design drafting team that is able to produce 2D, 3D and laser scan output.

Nick Burton

Naval Architect

M.Eng Naval Architecture

Nick has 5 years experience working as a Naval Architect with a background in superyacht design, construction and project management. Nick has skills and experience in ship structures, stability, composites, systems and has strong knowledge of practical engineering design. Nick also has solid regulatory knowledge and has been a committee member for a shipping register developing future passenger yacht code.
